Maddison Elliott clinches Girls 50m back-stroke title: Day three – Australian Age MC Championships
Maddison Elliott of Novocastrian clinched gold medal of Girls 50m back-stroke in 11 to 14 years old class on the last day of the 2011 Australian Age Multi Class (MC) Championships. The session took place at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra,
on Sunday, October 9.
The 12-year-old Elliott collected her eighth medal of the championship, and this win was also her third gold in the respective short meets of the event. She proved her dominance in the single-lap event by overwhelming the efforts of her challengers with
a timing of 40.53 seconds.
Elliott showered her expertise to claim the title of shortest back-stroke swim. With her commendable efforts and flawless strokes, she sprinted her way towards the concluding wall, dictating terms to her challengers for the gold medal. Elliott, S8, was trailed
by Amanda Fowler of Nepean Aquatic, who followed her on the podium for second position by reporting in a time of 36.46 seconds.
In the meantime, the silver medallist remained almost two seconds ahead of her subsequent competitor, Lauren Folster of QLD Chandler, who reached the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 38.11 seconds. Folster, who has the S14 disability,
remained at a prominent distance from her following swimmers to confirm her podium finish.
Next was the equivalent event in Boys corner, where Timot Disken of VIC PLC Aquatic grabbed the title of the event in a time of 33.77 seconds. His laudable efforts in the single-lap event placed him 2.30 seconds ahead of his competitor, Albany Creek’s Rowan
Crothers, who touched the finishing wall in 36.07 seconds for silver medal. The podium was completed by Mitchell Goldner of SA PBA Piranhas, who submitted a time of 34.87 seconds for bronze medal.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled events in the final session while the arena appreciated the spirited efforts of all age group disable swimmers. In addition, winners of each event were invited on the podium for their awards and accolades
after the session’s completion.
