Madeira Islands Open - Portugal Round-Two: Magnus A Carlsson, Joakim Lagergren, Andy Sullivan tied for the second
Magnus A Carlsson, Joakim Lagergren and Andy Sullivan are tied for the second position in the second round of the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal.
The three contenders played well, as they scored a 12-under 132 each. They finished one stroke behind the leader Oliver Wilson.
Wilson displayed an amazing performance in the first two rounds. He was bogey-free and shot a 13-under 131. He shot six birdies in the first and seven birdies in the second round respectively.
“I played nicely,” Wilson said. “The fact I haven’t had a bogey for two rounds shows I’m playing solidly and sensibly”.
Carlsson scoring was also amazing. He started the round by making three birdies early, on the front nine holes of the course and added four more on the back nine, on Thursday.
He only carded one bogey throughout the round and finished tied for the second. He improved his game and shot five massive birdies in the first half of the game on Friday.
Similarly, he again improved his leaderboard scores, after hitting three birdies on the back nine holes of the second round. However, he finished the day with two bogeys on the 17th and 18th hole as well.
Lagergren was the most appealing player in both the rounds. He cheered all his fans and spectators on Thursday, as he made eight birdies in total.
The appealing part of the first round was on the back nine holes, where he shot a birdie on the 11th hole, two bogeys on 12th and 13th and five consecutive birdies from 14th to 18th hole respectively.
Then in the second round, he displayed a bogey-free round and shot six massive birdies again.
“My ball striking is the best aspect of my game this week.” Lagergren said. “I played really badly in the final round in Seville last week so it is nice to be playing better”.
Sullivan started the first round with two bogeys and then shot an eagle on the 7th hole. He added four birdies on Thursday. Then in the second round, he was also bogey-free and carded six birdies and another eagle in an impressive style.
"It's just great to see the ball rolling into the hole," Sullivan said. "It makes a nice change. I saw (putting coach) Phil Kenyon last Friday and we've changed a few things technique-wise, and it seems to be paying off".
The second round is over now. All the players are now moving into the third round. The competition is tough now and all the players have to show good performances to maintain and secure the lead.
