Madeira Islands Open – Portugal: Tommy Fleetwood tied for second at the end of the first round

Tommy Fleetwood is sharing the second position with five other players, after the first round of the Madeira Islands Open – Portugal.
The 21-year-old English golfer scored a 6-under 66 at the Santo da Serra in Madeira, Portugal.
He played perfectly on every single hole and carded just one bogey throughout the day.
He scored three birdies and one bogey on the front nine holes of the course. Then he further added four more birdies on the back nine and finished the round on the second spot.
"Anytime you shoot a 66 is good and the course was very much for the taking this morning," Fleetwood said. "You shouldn't get conditions any better than that as there was no wind, and it was the best chance of scoring well you could get".
Fleetwood is sharing the second position with Ben Parker, Oliver Wilson, Joakim Lagergren, Magnus A Carlsson and Morten Orum Madsen.
They all scored 66 each on Thursday and displayed amazing performances. They finished only two strokes behind the leader, Alvaro Velasco, who scored an 8-under 64.
Madsen shot seven tremendous birdies and one bogey in total. He is happy after displaying such as appealing performance, and is hoping to deliver extra efforts in the next three rounds in Portugal.
"Thomas has long been a great inspiration to me and everyone in Denmark as well as Scandinavia, and I've been fortunate to speak with him on a number of time as Sikelborg is our home club," Madsen said. "My game was just very good today and it was a perfect
morning for scoring, so it was very, very enjoyable".
Carlsson shot seven birdies and one bogey.
Lagergren carded two bogeys and eight birdies in total. He was the most appealing player on the last five holes, as he shot five consecutive birdies.
Wilson played a bogey-free round and recorded six birdies.
Among the six leaders, only Parker was able to shoot an eagle, and also scored five birdies with one bogey.
The tournament has reached a crucial stage, with all the contenders having their fixed on the title.
Players will have to be extra impressive in the next three rounds in order to be on the top of the leader board.
