Madison Brengle loses to Julie Coin in qualifying 2nd round – Bell Challenge 2011
The two old fangled rivals contesting for the third time in their professional careers was the American Madison Brengle and Julie Coin in the second qualifying round of the Bell Challenge 2011. Both battled it out on indoor hard
courts of PEPS Laval University Campus in Quebec City, Canada. However, after 48 minutes Coin stood victorious with straight sets of 6-0, 6-2.
After winning the toss, Coin was first to serve, and with confidence held her serve in the first game and in the second broke Brengle to take a 2-0 lead. She again won on her respective serve in the third game and in the fourth
broke her opponent by cracking the cross-court forehand and then following it up with a massive off forehand winner. The American had apparently lost her way as she was broken for the second time in the set. As Coin held her serve for the third time, the score
was 5-0 in the fifth game and was now looking to break her opponent for the third and last time. During the sixth game as Brengle served to remain in the game, Coin broke her and sealed a faultless victory of the first set.
Coin was an imposing player as she did not set up a single break point opportunity for her adversary and instead availed all her break points to round off a 6-0 victory in the initial set. With almost twice as many points as the
American, the French was one up.
After taking a beating in the first set, Brengle still hadn’t learnt her lesson and instead didn’t even put in any effort to score a few games. Opening the second set with a determination to win was Coin. As the two players constantly
won on their respective serves in the first five games, in the sixth Coin broke Brengle for the first time and secured a 4-2 lead. She then went on to holding her serve in the seventh game and in the eighth game she broke her opponent by hitting a delightful
forehand winner down the line which the crowd enjoyed as well.
Coin accomplished two aces and fewer errors which resulted in her securing a berth in the final qualies of the Bell Challenge 2011 where she will be facing Slovak Petra Rampre.
