Madison Bumgarner's six strike-outs help San Francisco Giants beat Cincinnati Reds 7-0 – MLB Recap
Madison Bumgarner struck-out six in four scoreless innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-0 at Goodyear Ballpark, Arizona on March 10.
Bumgarner gave up initial runs before Brandon Phillips made a single in the fourth inning. That was the only hit permitted by Bumgarner, who had no walk. Madison wanted to get the same performance in the next games of Spring Training as well.
Madison was a draftee when he succeeded in the World Series during last year. He is planned as the Giants' fifth starter in the current season.
He expressed his feelings and said, "These guys roughed me up when I faced them last year. I definitely didn't forget about it. It's the best I've felt all spring. I feel like I'm where I need to be right now."
The Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy was pleased with Bumgarner’s last game performance and stated, "We don't think of him as our No. 5 guy. It's just the way we set it up. We did what's best for him and for the team. He's a big strong guy. He's throwing the
ball better really than he'd thrown all year."
The Reds’ opening-day roster Edinson Volquez made his initial spring emergence after clearing up visa issues in the Dominican Republic. He was set to play three innings but he made his throw count after just over two innings.
Andres Torres, Cody Ross and Freddy Sanchez all made home-runs against Bronson Arroyo in a four-run third inning. They managed strike three off-pace throw outs. Arroyo was exhausted after throwing three innings. He only pitched fastballs in the fourth inning
to put up his arm force.
Volquez commented that his arms look good but his body is slightly exhausted. He took off for the Dominican Republic early morning and reached there before the game started. He was just cheerful to make his name in a fixture.
Now, Volquez will throw in a Minor League game on March 15. The Reds’ manager Dusty Baker was very content with the fitness of Volquez.
Baker stated that Volquez pitched some high-quality changeups. The team officials sought out to give him an additional throw to get them off his speed-ball. He looked improved than his previous games performance.
Reds’ reliever Aroldis Chapman offered a run on two strikes in the second inning but smacked out three hitters. Edgar Renteria was the World Series prospect during last year with the Giants, but now played for the Reds. The Giants’ supporters provided him
a standing applause and repeated "MVP!" for number of times.
