Madison Bumgarner’s pitching helps San Francisco Giants defeat Colorado Rockies 9-1 - MLB Update
San Francisco Giants’ starter, Madison Bumgarner had a notable day with the ball as he threw seven innings and struck-out three batters with an ERA of 3.21 in the Giants’ 9-1 victory against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on September 16.
In the first three innings, the batters were outshined by the pitchers and failed to put runs. Carlos Beltran walked during first inning but Pablo Sandoval ground out, Jeff Keppinger lined out to pitcher and Cody Ross struck-out without taking even a single
run. Similarly, at the bottom of second inning, Wilin Rosario tripled to deep left-centre but Jordan Pacheco and Seth Smith both ground out without runs.
Keppinger walked in the third inning but Ross ground out to short-stop. Beltran hit a grounder into double play, second to short-stop position and short-stop to first base while Keppinger got out to second base. In the fourth inning, Brandon Belt struck
a two-run homer (413 feet) towards right-centre and Aubrey Huff scored a single run to give the Giants an initial 2-0 lead.
During the fifth inning, Giants and Rockies both scored one run to move their respective score-cards 3-1. Ross hit a solo homer (399 feet) towards right-centre to increase the lead of the Giants. On the other hand, Rosario posted the first run for the Rockies
when Dexter Fowler reached first base on the error of Giants’ third baseman Sandoval. Thomas Field moved to third base to end the fifth inning.
Giants advanced their lead 6-1 in the sixth inning when the batters blasted three quick runs. Brandon Crawford and Chris Stewart both added two collective runs when Bumgarner drove a double-run shot to deep right-centre. The third run during sixth inning
was taken by Bumgarner when Ross singled off left-field. In the seventh inning, the batters again put three runs on score-board to give the Giants a 9-1 lead.
Bumgarner gave away six hits, one run and one walk on his 97 pitches. Justin Christian scored a single run when Crawford singled to right-field. Later, Crawford moved to second base on the throwing error of Smith. Stewart hit a two-run homer (406 feet) towards
left-field and Crawford posted the final run.
Consequently, Giants were on top with 2-0 in the four-game series against Rockies at Colorado.
