Madison Kennedy claims Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day two - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Madison Kennedy of SwimMAC Carolina claimed gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Saturday, June 2.
Santa Clara meet is the last stop of 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that offers an opportunity to their national swimmers to compete with the best of the world and prepare for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 24-year-old Kennedy lived up to the expectations of her supporters as she snared the title of the discipline with an effort of 25.05 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 0.42 seconds faster from Samantha L Woodward of Unattached-PC, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal with the timing of 25.47 seconds.
Following that, the arena saw gruelling efforts of Lara M Jackson of Tucson Ford Deal and Liv E Jensen of California Aquatics, who tried hard to surpass each other over the finishing end but ended in a joint finish for third position.
The duo remained only 0.04 seconds slower from the silver medallist and posted a time of 25.51 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was the equivalent event in Men’s category, where Anthony L Ervin of California Aquatics occupied gold medal of the event.
The 31-year-old Ervin remained nearly one stroke ahead of his strongest challenger and cruised his way towards the finishing end with the timing of 22.35 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by William F Copeland of California Aquatics, who stayed 0.39 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 22.74 seconds for silver medal.
The third position was obtained by Roy-allan S Burch of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained 0.26 seconds behind and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 23.00 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by David H Dunford of Unattached-PC and Tyler Messerschmidt of Una Cal-PC, who stayed only 0.05 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with a joint finish of 23.05 seconds.
The session ended after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders received medal at the prize ceremony of the championship.
