Madison Keys and Jesse Levine win Australian Open wildcards – Tennis News
USTA Australian Open wildcard playoffs finished on Sunday, December 19th and two of the most unexpected superstars from America, Madison Keys and Jesse Levine, won the wildcard entrance for the first Grand Slam title, the Australian Open, starting
from 16th January, 2012.
Ashley Barty was the astonishing character in the Australian Open wildcard playoffs in Australia, as the 15-year-old placed a berth in the main round of the Grand Slam. This time, it was 16-years-old, Madison Keys, who confirmed her Australian Open spot
by winning the playoffs on Monday. It’s so fascinating to see that tennis has transformed into a most unpredictable game with all the youngsters making their way to the grand events of the year and most expected big guns, like Booby Reynolds, ousting at the
start of the playoffs.
Keys stunned everyone by defeating the match favourite Gail Brodsky in the final of the tournament while in the men’s category it was Levine who overpowered his compatriot, Robby Ginepri, in three-setter. Director of the Australian Open, Craig Tiley,  welcomed
the two new entrants and wished them good luck in their title campaign.
“We're delighted to have Madison and Jesse contesting the main draw at Melbourne Park, both excellent American players who will add to the excitement and entertainment of Australian Open 2012,”he stated.
Levine was amongst the top 100 performers of the world but couldn’t hold on to his spot. This breakthrough might help him gather some crucial points to climb many spots in the rankings. Talking about Levine, the Australian Open tournament director stated,
“Jesse has been in the top 100 and is a proven performer at Grand Slam level, with a run to the third round at Wimbledon in 2009 and the second round here at Melbourne Park a year earlier.”
Keys, on the other hand, is another young talent who will test his temperament and skilful play against the world’s most prolific performers. Tiley appreciated his performance in the playoffs and said, “At just 16 years old, Madison is an extremely talented
prospect.”
Fans will love this kind of versatile line up that ranges from young talented players like Keys and Barty to the most influential players like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova etc. featuring the first Grand Slam of 2012 . Everyone
is eager to witness their favourite players land on court and perform their best to make an eye-catching start to a new tennis season.
