Madison Square can be landmark win for Richard Hughes
Richard Hughes could cut Paul Hanagan’s lead in the jockeys’ championship this afternoon if Godolphin’s Madison Square improves in the first division of the 1stsecuritysolutions.co.uk Maiden Stakes.
The colt was 13¾ lengths third to Elas Diamond on debut and, with that filly going on to finish second in a Listed race at Newmarket last Saturday, the form book suggests this colt could do quite well. The ground could prove to be a problem with the going expected to be heavy but with the colt likely to improve on its second run.
Nottingham could look like the Cayman Islands if the Saeed Bin Suroor trained Caymans wins the 1stsecuritysolutions.co.uk Conditions Stakes. He’s raced very well out in Australia winning two races in 2008. He did race just three times in 2009 and has yet to appear in 2010. However, this race is a huge drop in class and with the Godolphin-trained Baila Me winning after a year’s break Caymans has a huge chance if he doesn’t get stuck in the mud.
In the Hallgarten Druitt Handicap, Flipping should be able to flip the script on market leader Blue Moon. Even with an extra 6lb to carry from last time out at Windsor the gelding should still go well. Previous to that he ran at Goodwood finishing fifth of six on soft ground. He’s raced off a higher mark this year and with Blue Moon seemingly not taking to the soft ground and racing on Monday Flipping looks like a good mid-market bet.
