Question:

Madison or Morgan for a baby girl?

I really like the name Madison and it was on our baby name list when we had our daughter 4 years ago, but we decided on something else.

In the mean time, my sister in law has a daughter she named Madeline and they call her "Maddy" for short...which I'm not fond of.

What I wanted to know, is if we went with Madison, is that too close to Madeline? We don't see this part of the family often, and the children are not close, we may see them once a year or so. Or should we go with something like Morgan, which is cute, but I really like Madison.

Do you REALLY think that Madison and Madeline are too close?

Please help!

  1. I really like the name Madison..No I don't think there to close.

  2. If you like Madison, name your daughter Madison.  Who cares if she has a cousin she'll rarely see with the name Madeline.  I personally love both Madison and Madeline (with Maddie for short), but I am hoping that someday when I have a baby, if it's a girl, to name her Madison.

  3. i really like the name Madison! Morgan is okay but not my favorite I dont think they're too close you could spell it Madyson or Madisyn!

    similar names:

    Madilyn

    Madelyn

    Megan

    Mabelle

    Mackenzie

    Congrats :)

    hope this helps

  4. i lovethe name madison!

  5. They are a little similar, especially if you call her Maddie, but I would name her Madison anyways, because you dont really see that part of the family much. I say go for it, I like Madison way more than Morgan

  6. Those names do seem close.  I would go with Morgan.  It's less common than Madison.  It's an incredibly popular name.  It's like the new Jennifer.  I was at my nieces peprally last week and there were tons of Madisons.  It was all of the squads from first grade to seventh and on each squad there was at least one Madison.  One squad even had three.

  7. Madison & Madeline aren't too close. I don't think your sister in law would really mind, as long as your happy, right?

Madison is a gorgeous name, i say for it (:

  8. well i like the name morgan

  9. Yes, Madison and Madeline are very close, particularly considering that they often end up being named "Maddie" (as your niece is).  Even if you don't see that branch of the family very often, it still leaves your parents to boast about their two granddaughters with almost identical names.

Madison is way too trendy, and it is going to sound very dated and passe in the near future.  Morgan was also very trendy in its day (10-15 years ago), but its time has come and gone--you don't want to be on the tail end of a trend that is already on its way out.

Try for something less trendy and "flavor of the month" sounding.  Meredith, perhaps?  It still has that unisex appeal that you seem to favor, yet it is more classic sounding than Madison or Morgan, and it will age much better.

  10. i have to say Morgan

  11. i'd go with morgan or megan.

    congrats

  12. Unless the girls are in constant contact, it really doesn't make a difference. If you like Madison, go with it. You've said that you're not going to call your daughter "Maddy", so they really won't have the same name. The girls won't care... and if your sister-in-law does, she's over-reacting.

I'm Alexa and I have a cousin named Alex - i see him once a year... it hasn't impacted my life at all.

Personally, I Morgan better because Madison has gotten very trendy - but it's your baby!

  13. There not too close. And if you don't see them often you don't need to worry. Me and my cousin have the same first name and we see each other every day and it was never a problem.

  14. I wouldn't worry about it since you don't see them often anyway. You could go with Addison instead if it bothers you. Maddy is a nn for Madison and kids will probably shorten her name to that so that could be a problem since you don't like the nickname. I dp like Madison better than Morgan.

  15. No I don't think that they are too close. Especially if you only see your family once a year it isn't bad at all. I like the name Madison I think it's really pretty. I would defintely use it. But if you did go with Morgan that name is cute too.
