Mads Larsen makes comeback and takes on undefeated Luke Blackledge in a non-title bout – Boxing News
Mads Larsen, the former EBU (European) super middleweight champion, has finally decided to make a comeback and will take on the young undefeated British proud Luke Blackledge, in an eight-round non-title bout which will be held on Saturday June 2, 2012.
The Danish proud Larsen and Luke will take on each other on the fight card headlined by the WBC, WBA, and WBO female welterweight title bout between Cecilia Braekhus and Jessica Balogun.
The ring for the showdown will be set up at Herning Kongrescenter situated in Herning, Denmark and the fight card is being promoted by Nisse Sauerland of SPAG. The Saturday night event will be co-headlined by the non-title 10-round bout between Reda Zam
Zam and Giuseppe Langella.
Larsen and Nisse recently attended the pre-bout press conference and shared their great joy over the return of Mads the ‘Golden Boy’. Larsen, a southpaw, has been in a total 54 bouts and boasts an impressive resume of 51 wins.
The veteran has nailed a huge 38 men by knockout and is making a comeback after the time lapse of almost 30 months. The Danish proud left the ring after collecting a loss from Brian Magee, a bout in which he lost his EBU (European) super middleweight gold.
During the media interaction, Mads shared his excitement at returning to the ring and stated, “It’s great to finally enter the ring after all the training. I know there is a lot of pressure on me because I have been away so long. Training is one thing but
having a real fight is something different. I look forward to Saturday night.”
At the same time, Nisse also put forth the media his thoughts about having Larsen on the fight card and commented, “It´s great to have Mads back in action. Our German coaches and his training partners in Berlin have all been full of praise for him. I can
see why – he looks in great shape and I am sure he will take care of business against Blackledge on Saturday.”
Larsen’s Saturday night opponent, Luke, is a surging young Briton who boasts an undefeated streak with three of his nine wins coming from knockout. The young lad, also known as ‘Robbo’, grabbed media’s attention in his last bout.
Blackledge took on heavily experienced Matthew Barney in a non-title six-round battle and collected an impressive win via points-base decision. It is this reason why the bout is being dubbed as an interesting and exciting one as both men will enter the ring
with their own agenda and to prove the fact that they deserve their place in the division.
