Mads Larsen ready to make comeback after 16-month time lapse against Lorenzo Di Giacomo – Boxing News
Mads Larsen, the former EBU (European) super middleweight champion, is ready to make a huge comeback after the lapse of 16 months against Lorenzo Di Giacomo, the former EBU-EU (European Union) middleweight champion, in a non-title bout which will take place
on June 2, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Herning Kongrescenter situated in Herning, Denmark. The event will be headlined by the WBA, WBC, and WBO female welterweight championship bout between Cecilia Braekhus and Jessica Balogun.
Larsen, 39, is a veteran who is making a comeback in the ring after the passage of a considerable time period. The Berliner has been in a total 54 bouts and boasts 51 wins. He has just collected three loss decisions in his career.
The former IBO and WBF super middleweight champion has collected 38 of his total wins by knockout and was considered a prolific pugilist of his time. Larsen left the ring after his last bout with Brian Magee, the clash in which he collected a seventh round
technical knockout loss.
Since then he has remained outside the ring and is now ready make a comeback against the Italian pounder Lorenzo. Giacomo, 33, has been in a total 48 bouts and emerged victorious in 41. He has nailed 19 of his opponents by knockout and is going through a
pretty tough phase of his career.
The former several times EBU-EU (European Union) middleweight champion, Lorenzo has collected three loss decisions in his last five bouts. The orthodox Italian took on Eduard Gutknecht in a bout with EBU (European) light heavyweight title on the line. Lorenzo
lost the bout via unanimous decision and later on collided with rookie Henry Weber just to collect another unanimous decision loss.
The odds are clearly in favour of the returning Larsen since as per his recent media interaction, he has undergone strenuous training alongside famous and well known German pugilists and coaches.
Mads commented, “It’s great to be back. I am in perfect shape after all the gruelling training with those German coaches. The fire is still burning inside me and I know that I can still compete at the top level. June 2 will be the first step. Di Giacomo
is a tough guy, he has proven his class in recent fights, but to reach the top again, I will have to find a way past him.”
If Larsen capitalises Lorenzo’s de-motivation factor he may pick up an early knockout win since he possesses a clear upper hand in the facet of throwing powerful jabs. The bout will be televised live on Denmark’s 3+ and Sweden’s TV 10 channels.
