Mads Petersen, Jonas Rasmussen beat Liu Xiaolong, Qiu Zihan in opening match of Singapore Open 2012
Men’s Doubles team Mads Conrad Petersen-Jonas Rasmussen proved their class in first round of Li Ning Singapore Open as they outclassed Liu Xiaolong-Qiu Zihan on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.
This opening match remained in full swing for an hour and both contenders displayed premium badminton skills before putting final results of 18-21, 21-7 and 19-21.
Now Mads Petersen and Jonas Rasmussen have an uphill task in front of them as they are scheduled to meet World Number six pair Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano of Indonesia.
However, they will surely employ all that experience which they earned by surpassing the higher ranked opponents in opening match.
World Number 17 Danish couple played attacking badminton and kept their rivals under control throughout three exhausting sets.
On the other hand, the performance of Chinese team was not up to the mark as they lost two crucial segments despite having better odds.
They took off in perfect manner but could not continue their smooth flight and crashed in first set of the match.
The twosome Liu Xiaolong and Qiu Zihan gained decent advantage initially but they could not withstand the strong backlash of opposing team.
Mads Petersen and Jonas Rasmussen levelled the score at 7-7 before ending first half with 11-8 total.
Though, they committed some unforced errors in third quarter of the set but it did not harm them much as they bagged opening game with 21-18 margin.
However, the Danish campaigners completely looked out of touch in following game as they hardly put any resistance.
This time Chinese pair played with right attitude and fortitude and established a comfortable lead until 11-6 at half time.
They finished second part of the game in just two steps as first they raised their total to 14 and then registered decisive figure of 21-7 by clinching last seven points in a row.
Last chapter of this saga was most captivating as both teams snapped each other’s heels to ensure their presence in second round of Super Series event.
They remained toe-to-toe in first half but then Mads Petersen and Jonas Rasmussen made the difference to lock the honour with 21-19 score on the board.
