Sevilla midfielder, Hedwiges Maduro, has revealed that the talks his teammates had among themselves on Monday were important to the club.
Sevilla were heavily defeated by the inform capital-based club, Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s men managed to put behind four goals past Sevilla.
Surely, it was a big upset and a humiliation for the Nervionenses. Regardless, they came back stronger after their 3-0 win over Espanyol in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night.
That result gave them a 6-1 aggregate which was enough for them to advance to the second-round of the Copa.
Reflecting on the results of the last few matches, Maduro believes the confidence of his teammates is back. He mentioned the talks they have had among themselves and said that they are determined to change things.
“The team is very confident. We already talked amongst the players on Monday and wanted to change things.”
Maduro stated his side’s fine performance against Espanyol in the Copa was a result of their talks on Monday.
“You saw the demonstration against Espanyol, we played a complete game.”
The Dutchman then turned his attention to the suggestions that Sevilla players felt offended after the club president, Jose Maria del Nido, harsh words following the Atletico defeat.
Maduro believes the players did not feel offended by the president’s words and said that things like this happen after a team experiences a bad result like that.
“It was a logical reaction after a match as bad as that.”
The midfielder has expressed his happiness with the return of Diego Perotti from injury and has also mentioned the importance of their next match with Real Valladolid.
“We are very happy with Diego; he is training well, with a great desire. He has a lot of quality and is very fast, I hope he stays that way.”
“On Monday we have an important game against Real Valladolid. There are many games remaining and we have to start winning.”
The Andalusians are currently sitting on the 10th position in the Primera Division. They are four points behind Malaga who are on the much coveted fourth spot for the Champions League.
