Maeva Parayre and Marc Artemius Paderon impressed at the 13 to 14 years preliminary rounds of the swimming events on day three of the 2011 Arafura Games.
The morning session concluded with the qualifying rounds of the 100m butterfly and the 50m backstroke for the male and female swimmers of 13 to 14 years of age group category.
The session began with the Girl’s 100m butterfly heats, where the New Caledonia’s Maeva Parayre presented an undisputable swim of 1:13.20 minutes to earn the fastest qualification spot into the final. With her gruelling swimming efforts, she successfully
out performed Joanna Simbulan of Philippines-AK, who appeared on the wall as the second fastest swimmer with her 1:13.76-minute effort. They were followed by West Australia’s Jade MacDonald-Razvi, who managed the third fastest qualification spot by touching
the wall in a time of 1:15.45 minutes.
The next event of the session was Boy’s 100m butterfly, where Philippines-AK’s Marc Artemius Paderon stunned the arena with his unmatchable swim of 1:04.88 minutes. His beautiful swimming stroke coupled with gruelling efforts, placed Paderon for the fastest
qualification spot into the final. He was followed by WA-sp’s Jack Atkin and Philippines-AK’s Rafael Sta. Maria, who touched the wall for second and third fastest qualification, producing a time of 1:07.01 and 1:07.62 minutes respectively.
Moments later, Carmi Louw of West Australia occupied the fastest qualification spot in the Girl’s 50m backstroke. Louw dominated the event with her spectacular effort of 34.49 seconds to enter the final. She was followed by Queensland’s Rachael Gilholm,
who was only 0.05 seconds away and emerged as the second fastest swimmer into the finals, clocking a time of 34.54 seconds. The third fastest qualification spot was claimed by West Australia’s Brianna Cummingham, who touched the wall third in 34.71 seconds.
The final event of the session was the equivalent event in the Boy’s corner, where James Parry of Queensland conquered the fastest qualification spot for the event with his tremendous efforts of 30.07 seconds. He was followed by Philippines-AK’s Marc Artemius
and NT’s Ayrton Innes, who emerged as the second and third fastest qualifying swimmers, posting a time of 31.02 and 31.50 seconds respectively.
These swimmers will battle each other once again in the finals of the same events, where the winners will earn awards and accolades for their undisputed swims.
