  1. They always talk about it on TV in Vegas, but I seriously doubt it anymore. Even the huge skimming operations of the 1970's would not be possible anymore.

There was a recent incident where one of the major casino operators rigged a drawing so that one of the big Asian gamblers would win an expensive car.  He had lost a lot of money on the tables and they wanted him to feel better. The gaming commission called it one of the most serious problems they'd seen in years.

The games themselves are so much more profitable than they were years ago that you could say the whole thing has become a criminal. Every traditional game has been altered so that the house edge has increased. Slot machines always had a huge edge, and they are always upgrading them so that they make more and more money. In addition, the really profitable operations, like Wynn and Sands take in most of their revenue from non-gaming operations.

I think organized crime is doing very well in Vegas, running the prostitution and drug trade, but I just don't think it's in the casinos anymore.

  2. No, its all run by corporations now.

  3. I'm Italian and my cosin in Italy said they had a big mafia but and there was ties to the american mafia in the east and west coast so maybe bra.

  4. Supposedly the mafia has been pretty much ousted from the casinos.  Nevada established a law enforcement agency called the Gaming Commission.  Often they work in conjunction with the FBI.  Their goal in life is to investigate any improprieties dealing with gambling.  Everything from underage gambling, to disputes over payoffs, to organized crime involvement.

It has been said numerous times by people who have lived in Vegas since the first casino opened, that there was not the problems they have now with drugs, gangs, etc. and that the perks and treatment of customers was 100% better when the mafia was involved.  Not to many people messed with the business.  Those that did, well, you know......
