Wolfsburg manager, Felix Magath, has hit back at Danish international Simon Kjaer’s comments.
The Dane joined Wolfsburg from Palermo for a fee reported to be around 10 million pounds in 2010. Despite being wanted by several European giants, he moved to Steve McClaren’s Die Wolfe. He enjoyed his best spell
at the German club under the English manager.
Kjaer made 34 appearances for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 that season and the club finished 15th in the 2010/2011 campaign. With the arrival of Felix Magath, the 23-year old got less and less game time and was restricted to only four
appearances. Injuries and falling out with the new manager marked the end of his time at the Volkswagen arena.
He joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 on a season-long loan and was not expected to return to Wolfsburg. Before the 2012 European Championships, the Dane was reported as saying that he will not return to the Radkappen after his loan spell in Rome comes
to an end.
When enquired about his Danish defender’s claims of not returning to the club, the 58-year old was rather furious. He insisted that the 23-year old has a contract with the club and not with his manager. The manager does not like
holding players against their will. Kjaer was expected to make his loan move permanent but the clubs involved are yet to reach an agreement.
"Kjaer has a contract with Wolfsburg, not with me," the 58-year old is quoted as saying in an interview.
Magath believes the centre-back could have been a bit more professional when he made those claims about not returning to the Volkswagen arena. The 58-year old added that discretion and cleverness is needed in situations like this
one but the former Palermo defender failed to handle the situation.
"There are professionals whose comments would be a bit more clever in situations like this," he added.
Magath is infamous for his tough management approach, and there are not many players who stay happy under him. He has been nick-named ‘Saddam Hussein’ by many of his ex-players who found him to be a bit autocratic.
Kjaer will complete his move to Roma, if not, then there will be a lot of other European and Italian clubs lining-up to snap him up.
