I want to be a magazine journalist, but the college I am attending does not offer this specification in the field. All they offer is broadcast journalsim. I am thinking I should just major in creative writing or Literature if I am to practice feature writing. would like to become chief editor of a magazine or my own, preferably a science magazine (any suggestions about a notable magazine centered around the arts and sciences?). Also, I have heard bad things about the salary of magazine journalists or journalists in particular. Can someone give me some optimistic encouragment and advice. It would honestly be appreciated.

  1. Depending upon what nation you are in and at which universtity, you might be wise to explore taking online journalism courses as electives.

If you can take up to 15 elective credits, you could qualify -- for example -- to obtain a Certificate in Online Journalism from the University of Massachusetts.  This way you could study magazine journalism, travel writing, basic news reporting, interviewing etc. while following your major in creative writing and broadcast journalism.
