My husband and I keep receiving both magazines, and their bills... but we didn't subscribe to any of them. There is a different one every other week... what is going on?!

  1. I've started to get copies of New York Magazine that I think are a fringe benefit of having a certain credit card. I'm sure it's a freebie, but I have no intention of paying for something I didn't order.

There is consumer protection legislation saying that people don't have to pay for things they never ordered, but I don't know what the law is in your state. You should let them know ASAP that you don't want the stuff you're getting.

If you joined a web community, did banking online, posted a resume, or did something else online, you may have given them permission to give your address to one of their "partners" (i.e., anyone who will pay them.)

If you're getting bills, and you don't want the magazines, send the bills back as I suggested at the beginning, and write "We did not order this - please cancel." across the bill. But ALSO read the bill, and follow any instructions regarding billing disputes and/or cancellation.  It's a pain but that should stop it.

    Hang tough :)
