Magdalena Piekarska secures her top position in Women’s Epee World Ranking: Fencing News
The International Federation of Fencing, Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE) unveiled the rankings for Women’s Epee Fencing. The Polish, Magdalena Piekarska secured the April 3’s top position with 218 points. All the rankings updated from April 1,
2011 are valid for 2012 London Olympic qualification.
Last year, Piekarska was in third place with 230 points. She worked hard this year and secured first or second place in most of the competitions. FIE published first updates of 2010-11 World rankings on April 1, 2011. Piekarska was leading the World Ranking
List with 244 points. Her performances in the months of April and May were satisfactory, but her previous performances made her survive retain the first position in the rankings.
Two international events of Women Epee Fencing were conducted within the months of April and May. Piekarska was eliminated as a number 17th seed in International Epee event that was conducted on May 6, at Brazil, while she finished as at 9th seed
at Women’s Epee Grand Prix that was conducted on May 21, at Cuba.
French Fencer, Maureen Nisima amazingly entered in the Women’s Epee World Ranking as number second seed. She took the fifth spot in 2009-10 rankings, but this year she is working hard to qualify for 2012 London Olympic Fencing Games. Nisima is 2010 Fencing
World Champion, as she won gold medal in 2010 Paris World Fencing Championships. She took the highest 96 points in this championship. Ukrainian Yana Shemyakina is just two points away from second the position. The upcoming Epee events will be more interesting
due to tough competitions.

8. Tatiana Logounova from Russia with 146 points
9. Bianca Del Carretto from Italy with 128 points
10. Yun Hee Oh from Korea 128 with points
