Magdalena Rybarikova cruises past Aravane Rezai into quarterfinal – WANLIMA Women’s Open 2011
Eight seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova crushed French Aravane Rezai with a breadstick at the WANLIMA International Women’s Open, a WTA International event held on the hard courts in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China. She
earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the world number 106, Rezai to secure a last eight spot on Wednesday.
Ranked 72nd in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Rybarikova won for the first time in her fourth meeting against Rezai to not only lower the trail by 1-3 but also booked a quarter-final place in this outdoor hard
court event.
22-year-old Slovak confidently entered the Chinese court and displayed tremendous skills to keep her opening serve. She held following serves until she lost her track in the seventh game. However, she quickly dug her way back after
snatching the break back in the eighth game and then broke the Frenchwoman’s serve again in the last game to clinch the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The Slovak clobbered an amazing first serve share of 54 percent as opposed to Rezai’s 38 percent and registered a fabulous 79 percent win on it. In addition to this, she warded off three out of four breakpoints came across and
converted two out of three breakpoint opportunities to her advantage.
Rybarikova re-ignited her flame again in the second set and reeled off first three games in a row before the Frenchwoman could hold on. She then broke again in the sixth game and held remaining serves to register a breadstick.
The Piestany native, Rybarikova clobbered a slightly lower first serve share this time but earned a spectacular 82 percent win on it. Furthermore, she faced zero breakpoint and cashed in on both breakpoint chances to her advantage
to win convincingly.
Up next for the Slovak is the second seeded Australian Jarmila Gajdosova. Rybarikova needs to focus on her gameplay and style to upset the higher seed and to progress further in this event.
The Aussie bounced back to register a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Luxembourgian Mandy Minella in two hours and seven minutes on their second meeting. 24-year-old Aussie lost her serve four times but broke Minella’s serve six
times to earn this victory and to maintain her winning record against the Luxembourgian.
