Magdalena Rybarikova surprises Jarmila Gajdosova to enter semi-final –WANLIMA Women’s Open 2011
Slovakian tennis pro Magdalena Rybarikova upset second seeded Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday to book her place in the semi-final of 2011 WANLIMA Women’s Open here in Guangzhou, China.
Rybarikova had a great start as she pressurised her opponent right from the first game of the match. Sticking to her strengths, she created all sorts of trouble for her opponent from deep behind the baseline. Serving brilliantly,
she managed to hold on to most of her service games as well. Saving crucial break points against her opponent, her defence was formidable.
Ranked 72nd in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings, Rybarikova looked n stunning form in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 16 minutes on the hard courts of Guangzhou. Breaking her opponent at regular intervals,
she put herself in the driving seat. Dashing her ferocious backhand and forehand winners all over the court, she established complete control over the contest.
The 22-year-old was very pleased with the way she contested against a player who is ranked much higher than herself in the WTA rankings. Claiming 71 per cent of the points on her first serve, she served with accuracy to take control
of the rallies.
The Slovakian will be hoping to continue her great form in the upcoming matches of WTA tournament as well to win third WTA title of her career. However, she will have to be a lot more consistent if she wants to achieve similar
sort of results against other top seeded players.
Gajdosova looked a bit out of sorts throughout the contest. Unable to get to some of the simplest balls, her foot work wasn’t that great. Being the number two seed, she was expecting to make it all the way to the finals. However,
she failed to lift her game when it mattered the most. The Australian tennis pro has given decent results since the start of this season, which has improved her ranking significantly. She will be hoping to regroup herself and come back stronger on her next
appearance on the tour.
Making a strong start to the contest, Rybarikova broke the serve in the very first game of the opening set. Playing the big points really well, she managed to take a crucial 5-4 lead, serving for the set. Hitting a staggering passing
shot, she closed out the set to take 1-0 set score lead.
The second set followed a similar pattern as Rybarikova broke her opponent's serve twice to race to an impassable 5-1 lead. And although she suffered a break of serve, she managed to complete her victory in straight sets.
