Question:

Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS not working?

I recently purchased a Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS. I charged it up three hours already, it is difficult to turn on even after pressing one to two seconds, the Magellan screen shows up but the progress bar does not move. Do I need to register it first and activate the GPS with serial number before it works or what? do I have to do anything with the CD first? or do I need to return it?

  1. I have recently had two 1412 devices. I had to return one because the USB/Power port broke loose from the circuit  board. For both devices, after charging, I just held the "on" button until the screen lit. Both  booted right up to the  "caution" screen which could be dismissed with a button  touch. The devices will not give you a location for a few minutes as it searches for satellites, but  you should  see the main screen quite quickly. There is no need to enter the serial  number or even boot the CD (it contains a user  manual and a Points of Interest editor).

I would return the device. Something is not right!
