Maggie J Meyer clinches Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day four – 2012 Arizona Invitational
Maggie J Meyer of FORD-AZ clinched gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on last day of the 2012 Arizona Invitational in Mesa, Arizona on Monday, May 28.
The 22-year-old Maggie stayed in a comfortable lead over her competitors throughout the distant backstroke event. With her gruelling efforts and tremendous pace, she showed no mercy to her opponents and reached the finishing end for gold medal of the discipline.
Meyer was trailed by her teammate, Erin R Campbell, who was 1.20 seconds apart and secured second position of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 19.17 seconds.
Third spot of the 200m discipline was secured by Kallie J Golden of Gmsc-AZ, who was 2.09 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 21.26 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed forceful efforts of Lizzy G Luttrell, who struggled hard to make her way to the podium but finished fourth in the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 22.97 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Sarah A Denninghoff of Arizona-AZ, who was 2.13 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 25.10 seconds.
On the other hand, Ellis Miller of Arizona-AZ dominated the playoff of Men’s 200m backstroke. The 20-year-old Miller stayed substantially ahead of his challengers and posted a time of 2 minutes and 05.74 seconds for the title of the event.
Miller was chased by his team-member, Michael B Sheppard, who proved his eligibility for silver medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Matt T Hurko of Arizona-AZ, who finished his swim in third best place with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.79 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Pete K Stacy, who was 0.80 second apart and produced a timing of 2 minutes and 10.59 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders received medals and accolades for their commendable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship while the session ended after the conclusion of all events.
