Maggie Miller wins Women’s 100m backstroke gold: Day two – YMCA National LC Championship
Maggie Miller of Elkins-WV won gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on second day of the 2012 YMCA National Long Course Championship at Georgia Institute of Technology Aquatics Center on Tuesday, July 24.
The 15-year-old Maggie spoiled the party of her competitors in the two-lap backstroke discipline as she proved her eligibility for the crown of the discipline.
With her continuous efforts, she remained two strokes ahead of her following swimmer and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 04.15 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Ali Galyer of Middle Tyger–SC, who stayed 0.36 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 04.51 seconds.
Galyer was trailed by Madeline Hoch of West Shore-PA, who suffered a loss of 0.17 seconds from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 04.68 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth finest spot of the discipline was obtained by Lindsay Temple of Somerset Valley NJ, who was only 0.20 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 04.88 seconds.
The 16-year-old Temple was followed by Katrina Konopka of Middle Tyger-SC, who stayed 0.17 seconds apart and earned fifth position of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 05.05 seconds.
Similarly, Konopka was chased by Emily Cornell of Upper Main Line-PA, who was 0.60 seconds slower and finished sixth in the discipline with an effort of 1 minute and 05.65 seconds.
Cornell was chased by Ryan Alexander of North Shore-MA, who stayed 0.30 seconds apart and ended seventh in the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 05.95 seconds.
Alexander was traced by Noelle Klockner of West Monmouth-NJ, who was 0.17 seconds slower from her and tapped the finishing blockade for eighth position by producing an effort of 1 minute and 06.12 seconds.
In addition, Miller was very happy with her accomplishment while the championship will continue for three more days and will conclude on July 27.
