Maggots in the garbage can..

Question

We just took the garbage that was in our garage to the curb and found maggots all over in the garbage can. We just pulled it out to the curb and sprayed the floor where the garbage was with some kind of cleaner (the only one we could find) and then sweeped the rest up and threw them outside. I'm thinking there was meat in the garbage that rotted from the heat and humidity... since the garbage is out of the garage now, are we in the clear? Or is there something else we should do?
