Magic Jack ? Any negatives. How about calling abroad from the US is it possible?

I have not talked to anyone who calls another country...is that possible?

Well, it could be free if for example someone in a diff country has a Magic Jack or other VoIP Device configured with a US number.

You would then be calling a US number, even though the actual location of the user is in a diff country.

I have heard of people doing this with Vonage.

They will setup a VoIP Service with a US Number and just take the Device Internationally and therefore, the number follows them...

So, if you want, buy a Majic Jack, configure it with a US number, send it over to your family and/or friends in China, have them plug it into  BroadBand Connection (Majic Jack used about 8-10 Kb of bandwidth), and you can call each other for free since the calls being made are US numbers :-)

its only free if both parties use the MagicJack!!

yes...I got it last may already and love it!!

I had no problems installing it...matter-of-fact ....the install was faster and much more easier then my other VoIP service!

Land Phones its really easy to use....like a VoIP service (Internet phone)

but you computer got to be on at all times for it to work!!

You gotta download their software....but its very easy and you don't need to do nothing else...! I have it since last year...! so far I love it...I take it on vacation to other countries so I can call back for free with an US area code! Make sure you use another user account and not the admin account...also if you have trouble...check your device manager....don't do your iPot stuff at the same time...!

all you get is the Magic Jack...the rest you learn on your on, or at the MJ forum!

You will be up and running within 5 minutes....you can ask here questions when you get it going!! There are alot of little things you have to know........for it to work just right!!

the most important thing with the MJ...it all depends on your ISP provider....! I use other VoIP on my computer, but the MJ was the easiest to install...

However, there's a post from someone who bought one, set it up, and then mailed it overseas to relatives. They can now use it to call back to the US.

You can take your magicJack anywhere in the world, and call back to the US and Canada "free". But you won't be able to call anyone in the country you're visiting.

If you have a MJ, and you send a friend an MJ in Italy (as an example), you can call each other for free. That's because even though your friend is physically in Italy, his phone number is in the US - so to MJ you're making a US to US phone call.
