Magic The Gathering Merfolk mill?

I am making a blue/white merfolk deck and i was just wondering, if i paired merrow reejery + drowner of secrets, could i tap drowner of secrets to mill my opponent one card, then activate merrow reejery's ability to untap drowner of secrets?

or, would it simply be better to have drowner of secrets + stonybrook schoolmaster + intruder alarm to create alot of 1/1 merfolk tokens and keep tapping stonybrook to mill my opponent as much as i need?

The second one would be better. The first combo would not work. Merrow Reejery saya "When ever you ply a Merfolk SPELL, you can tap or untap target permanent." Drowner of Secret's ablity is a merfolk ABILITY. Playing a Merfolk spell is when you play a card with the creature type Merfolk. It does not mean when a Merfolk activates its ability. The second one, however, is genius. Sadly, Intruder Alarm hasn't been reprinted since 8th Edition.

Your first idea with the Drowner and the Reejery doesn’t actually work, because the Merfolk Reejery states that “Whenever you PLAY another Merfolk spell, you may tap or untap target permanent.”  Tapping Drowner of Secrets won’t actually do anything useful, other than mill your opponents for one. However, if you could find a way to play infinite Merfolk spells with the Reejery and the Drowner on the board, then you can mill the opponent’s deck away. (Tap drowner, Reejery untaps drowner, rinse and repeat.)

The second idea would work in extended. Assuming that you don’t really care about tournament legality, you can run the four-card infinite combo: Schoolmaster + Drowner +Tap outlet (probably Moonglow Changeling) + Intruder Alarm. Tap your fish to mill opponent, make one more fish, untap all fish, tap fish to mill, etc.

However, kindly notice that Intruder Alarm is not legal in Standard. Else, the world would go mad.

Drowner of secrets + stonybrook schoolmaster + intruder alarm is better. That is a combo and is much faster.

I would also add grimoire thiefs (they mill pretty good with the drowner of secrets) because they also protect the combo. Fallowsages are good too.
