Magic: The Gathering summon/creature types?

Question

On older magic cards it would have the word summon-...... instead of creature-.... I'm trying to make a snake deck and I have a couple of cards that say summon cobra or summon asp. Not only is the word summon not used anymore, but these days cards like this would have the creature type "snake." Cobra and Asp aren't creature types so are they considered to be snake-types or not?

Cobra and Asp are also put into the snake group as well as Orochi and Boa.

Yep, those snake creatures would be considered "Snakes" by the errata.  There are a massive number of cards who either had their creature types changed or had subtypes added on to the original.
