Magic jack phone connection?

Question

I'm trying Magic Jack telephone but I can't get the telephone to ring. I get a dial tone but no ring. I was told to try an AC USB port hub. But does someone out there have any other ideas. I can't find that port hub locally. Also, isn't there a way to keep the computer on for phone calls and turn off most everything else(monitor, hard drive, etc.)?
