  1. Before you do anything, get your self a few (as many as you can afford) identification books. Never EVER eat anything you are not 100% sure about - you'd certainly regret it if you did.

There are a few books dedicated 'magic' mushrooms and would be a good investment.

Pastures/fields, roadsides, especially where mulching has been used. Cattle fields are also a good start but not essential.

You want to go looking in the morning following rain for ideal conditions. I live in UK so best someone else takes over from here !

  2. There are mushroom identification field guides that will show you what you are looking for.  You generally find psilocybe cubensis mushrooms in cow pies.  The best time to look is after it rains.  I've hear of them growing in climates as far north as Washington state.

However, I wouldn't eat anything I picked, even if it did look like a mushroom in a field guide because many mushrooms look the same and it is very difficult to differentiate between a poisonous mushroom and an edible one sometimes.  Worst yet is the fact that sometimes it may take up to a week for the symptoms of the poison to show up after eating a bad mushroom and by that time it's too late.  I'd only go picking mushrooms if I had a good amount of mycology experience or if I were with an experienced mycologist.

If you really want to try magic mushrooms you could always grow them yourself using the PF TEK method.  It's pretty cheap to do (under $50), it's not too hard, and the process is relativley quick (about 4 to 5 weeks under favorable conditions).  The mushrooms don't really need any light, so they can be hidden pretty much anywhere.  Get spores from www.thehawkseye.com and check out "Let's grow mushrooms PF TEK" on youtube if you're interested.

  3. Mushrooms feed on dead decaying matter like dead trees and etc. You could probably find them in dark, damp areas or places where trees died.

  4. they grow in warm climates. i think they are mostly found in south america and some parts of mexico.
