Hiya. I've just recently started playing Magic and I've yet to get a deck of my own. A friend of mine offered to build a black/blue deck for me with mostly elves and fae in it. Would this be a good deck?

  1. The current Type 2 meta is black/green Elves, blue/black Faeries, red/green/black mana ramp, black/white/green Doran, and blue/white Reveillark.

It all depends on your style of playing.... Elves and Faeries are agro, everything else is mid tempo control. It's your pick.

  2. no not for starters

how long as your friend been playing

because blue is the hardest color in the game

id start with green/red, or red/black

    or just green or red.

those are the best color combos

and i have a perfect elf deck if you need any suggestions with elves send me a message.

title it magic/elves so i know not to delete it.

  3. I wouldn't suggest melding Elves and Faeries. Though MTG would love to see you meld those types, it'd be a task to be an effective player mixing their completely different playstyles. I mean, Faeries have two different routes to go: Fae Wizards or Fae Rouges. Rouges have prowl cost and stay to black, so you could take both routes.

Elves are more swarm and pumping and lifegain, which is something faeries don't do. Fae aims more for countering, flash, flying, and disruption. They are too far apart and I wouldn't meld them.

  4. With the introduction of Shadowmoor, I'd recommend a black/red -1/-1 counter deck.  It's a blast to play.  But anyways, if you want to go fairy/elf, you'd have to go blue/black/green, which I wouldn't recommend for a beginner.  No, I'd recommend looking at the cards and theme decks on magicthegathering.com and looking at what colors you like the most.  After that, I'd go purchase a theme deck (~$10) of your favorite color(s) from a recent set.  It's ready to play, and is built for both beginners and advanced players.  I like to start off my friends with them, and I buy them myself to modify, even though I've been playing 3-4 years.  So, to answer your question: Go get yourself a theme deck!

  5. Any deck can be  'good deck' if the builder knows what they are doing. It just depends on their skill on building and what you want from the deck. Do you want it to go "fast" so that you get all the cards out quickly so you can bash the enemy before they can really defend themselves, or do you want a "slower" deck that would allow you to slowly build an unstoppable defense? It's totally up to the builder/owner. You have to know what you want and you have to know what you're doing. Good luck. :-)

  6. I have no clue how a blue/black elf and faerie deck would work. It may be a good starting point, but try it and see.
