  1. Magic is the original card game.

It was created with concepts from D&D

Yugioh is a branch off of Magic.

I have played both seriously and there are a few similarites.

both are great fun games which require time, money, and strategy.

While i prefer magic over yugioh because of the higher level of thought

it is up to you to decide which style of game you prefer.

    Magic: the Gathering,

This game is based on 5 colors of power

    White- Protection

    Blue- Counters

    Red-fast damage

    Green-heavy hitting mobs

Black- bringing monsters back from the dead

all are good coors in there own respect and based the players method of game play decides which color they play

Go to Playmagic.com and play the demo read some stuff

and if you feel like it is for you go out to your nearest comic book shop and get some cards.

    Good Luck

  2. yugioh is nothing like magic and is waaaaaaayyyy better. i've only played magic once and i didn't like it at all. since it's so different than yugioh, it's also really confusing and just not as fun

  3. Yugioh is for kids. MTG is for older teens to adults. It's like "Go Fish" & Poker.

As a strategy game MTG knows no equal.. not even Chess.

  4. Magic the Gathering is the Dad of all TCG's.  It's a more amped up version of YGO.  I personally like Magic more.  I think it's more of a strategy game than YGO.  There are a lot of decks out there but there are a lot more that can be made for fun.  And it has a lot more cards to play with.

  5. This is the mother of all questions for TCG.  Yugioh is for younger kids.  Magic is more advanced and requires deeper thought with a much more vast variety of strategies.  Now, i typed a lot, but to make it easier, watch this series of videos on youtube and they teach you how to play magic and what it is.  Or you can read what I put down, which goes into a little more detail on some of the topics.

I'll answer your questions in order.

"Is magic the gathering a good tcg?"

Magic is an excellent card game that proves anything can happen while playing.  There are a few 1,000 cards out there, keeping the game fresh and always having new combinations.

    "which one is betteR?"

Like I said before, Yugioh is more simple, with strategy, but not too much because everyone knows all the cards in the game really.  Magic is more open and in my opinion is 10times better.  There is always new tricks you learn and more advanced ways to play.

"what is magic the gathering about? (i know yugioh)"

Magic is a game where you have a deck (library) of cards and you must reduce your opponent's life down to 0.  You use creatures and other spells to accomplish this.  Now, there are many different types of cards, but I'm not going to go into that yet.

First, there are 5 different colors of creatures and spells that you can play with, each being unique and focusing on certain strategies, more than others.  There is:

Red: Red has a lot of cards that will do direct damage to your opponents and their creatures.  They also use small creatures that are easy to play, and to attack as fast as possible in order to win.  There are larger more powerful creatures that you can play with later in the game as well.

Blue: Blue is known for it's control of the game.  There are cards that allow you to keep opponents from playing their cards, and stopping the creatures they have out already from doing anything.  Blue's creatures focus on giving the player abilities to draw more cards faster to keep playing "counter" cards.  They also have tons and tons of creatures with the ability to fly, making it harder to block them.

Black: Black like any other game is the color of death.  Most Black spells use abilities that cause other creatures to become weaker and sometimes even your own.  There are spells that let you do X (X meaning any number) damage to a creature and player, and gaining X life.  It also has black spells that kill other creatures directly.  The creatures have abilities that activate when they come in and out of play.  Most of them reduce the enemies creatures when they try to attack.

Green: Green is all about the power.  Green has some of the most powerful creatures in the game, mainly planning on attack their opponents and overrunning them with damage.  There are also cards that allow them to play more of these beasts faster and life gain.  They also have smaller creatures who when massed can be just as deadly.  Their other spells are mostly life gain and making those beast even more powerful.

White: White is the prevent and heal color of the game.  It's spells focus on preventing damage you take and healing yourself what might go through.  It has some creatures with flying, but there are plenty of creatures that are great for defending.  Some creatures heal when they come into play aswell.  White is excellent for defense, and there are a couple of powerful creatures to finish off your opponents.

From these 5 colors, you can make a deck of atleast 60 cards.  Now this means you can have a deck of 148 cards or any number, as long as it's more than or equal to 60 (60 is the best to go with).  The deck can be any combination of colors, but playing with a 5 color deck is extremely difficult.  Most people use 1 to 2 colors.

There you have it!  That's what the game is about.

    "is it like yugioh?"

In a way yes.  But the question should really be, is yugioh like magic because magic came first.  You have creatures and you have cards that can change the outcome of the game, but with magic, the board is limitless.  you can play as many creatures as you want.  There are cards sorta like Magic and Trap cards, but they are Sorceries and Instances, and you don't put them face down on the field, u play them from your hand.  You don't play a creature each turn and 2 magic or trap cards like in yugioh.  You play cards by using "lands".  When you tap (which means turning the card into what looks like defense position in Yugioh) a land, you gain a "mana".  then you use that mana to play cards in your hand.  You can play 1 land on each of your turns.  So lands are very important in decks, otherwise you can't play anything.

    HOPE THIS HELPED!!!
