Magic the Gathering: Wilt-Leaf Leige?

My opponent has a Wilt-Leaf Leige in play and a Rhys the Redeemed. Rhys is now a 3/3 because of the Leige's ability. I attack with a 4/4 and a 2/2. My oppenent blocks the 4/4 with the Leige and he blocks the 2/2 with Rhys. Both my creatures die. The Leige dies. Does Rhys die? I assume that he does. He will have two damage on him from my 2/2 and when the Leige goes into the graveyard, he will lose +2/+2 and become a 1/1. Is this correct?

  1. Yes you are right. The Liege will die first, since it received lethal damage. As soon as the Liege leaves play, State based effects will check Rhys power/toughness. With the Liege no longer in play, Rhys will not get the bonus and become a 1/1 with 2 damage dealt. Then Rhys will go to the graveyard inmediatly.

All of this will happen almost inmediatly.

  2. yes, u are 101% correct!

  3. That would be correct sir.  As long as the Leige is in play, Rhys will be 3/3.  After the damage resolution stage, the Leige will have 4 damage to it, killing it and Rhys will have 2 damage to it.  Once the Leige leaves play, all modifiers it brought are now gone, therefore turning Rhys back to a 1/1 with 2 damage against it, killing it.  Why he just didn't make a token and use that to block, I'll never know.

  4. You are correct. You attack with a 4/4 and a 2/2. He blocks with liege and with Rhys, respectively. After the damage step, both the Liege and the 4/4 will have 4 damage on them. Your 2/2 will have 3 damage on him, and Rhys has 2 as well. When the game checks for damages, every creature except Rhys is moved to the graveyard because of lethal damage. Then, without the liege, Rhys will be a 1/1 with two damage on it, and head for the graveyard as well.

    Hope that helped.
