Magic the gathering question: Can Land Tax fetch dual lands, specifically a Sacred Foundry?

No you can't. Land Tax allows you to look up for basic lands only. Altough Sacred foundry is a Mountain Plains (and both of those are basic types), Sacred Foundry itself is not a basic land, and therefore you can not fetch it with Land Tax.

There are only five basic lands in the game:

Basic Swamps

Basic Plains

Basic Forest

Basic Island

Basic Mountains

Since Ravnica shcoklands were printed, confusion arrose, specially among the cards that look for lands. That is why the new basic lands are being printed with the word 'basic' on them. A template for a basic forest will read:

Basic Land  -  Forest

If it does not have that template, it is not basic.

yes, the new ravnica dual lands are considered basic lands. only those and the original duals are considered basic and can be fetched.

land tax can not fetch any dual land, or ravnica land, because they are not basic lands.

There are only 10 basic lands that currently exist in entire collection of magic. They are as follows:

plains

snow-covered plains

island

snow-covered island

swamp

snow-covered swamp

mountain

snow-covered mountain

forest

snow-covered forest

Now to get back to what your asking, there are several things that can search for plains, forests, mountains, swamps, and islands.

Since Land Tax, can't get your sacred foundry for you, I'd recommend a card called Tithe from visions. For 1 white mana it can fetch you 2 plains, provided that you have less land than target opponent.

You could also go with the plainscycling creatures from scourge.

Eternal Dragon - tis da bomb

or Noble Templar

The fetch lands are another option, the ones mirage

Flooded plain

Mountain Valley

or Flagstones of Trokair if you can get it into the graveyard

But they come into play tapped.

However if you want them on the first turn, the pain fetch will work from onslaught

Wooded Foothills

The ability is that you can get up to 3 basic land cards, not 3 basic land subtype cards.  Sacred Foundry is not a basic land and neither would any other dual land suffice.
