when you pay that can you take off a -1/-1 for casting green and -1/-1 for casting blue.....add on "Favor of the overbeing" enchant +1/+1 to blue +1/+1 to green and then "sturdy hatchling" becomes a permanent 8/8 creature?

  1. Alright well you don't know what a spell is then.  A spell is everything but a land.  This doesn't mean abilities, but cards.  Whenever you play a card that isn't a land, it qualifies as a spell.  So when you use his ability to gain shroud, it doesn't effect the other 2 "abilities" (the -1/-1 counter related ones).

Your second question is worded badly but I'll try to answer it.

When you add Favor of the Overbeing, it counts as both a green and blue spell.  So, when you play it (whether or not it is played on Sturdy Hatchling) Sturdy Hatchling's abilities activate.  You remove a -1/-1 counter on him for playing a blue spell and then again for playing a green spell.  Then he gains +1/+/1 and vigilance for being green and an additional +1/+1 and flying for being blue if you play it on him.  Technically he doesn't become an 8/8 "permanently" because depending on the -1/-1 counters on him, it will determine what he is.

Just remember that everything is spells but lands and abilities.  Also that anything that is split color counts as both colors.  Remember that and your good to go.
