Magical Emily casts a spell for a win at Perry Barr
Today, the Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium in Birmingham was home to some high-energy 480m races, and some unexpected results.
The greyhound racing action got off to a great start at 11:11 with an A8 race. Coming into this race, Drumscraw Minnie was staked as the 9-4 favourite to win, but ended up with a third-place finish today with 29.90, which was 1½ lengths behind second place.
The victory belonged to Magical Emily (7-2), who cast a spell on the competition and finished the race in 29.78. She held an early pace out of trap six, led to second, and came in for the win.
Finishing just a shoulder behind the winner was Make Design (7-2). He matched the first-place time of 29.78, and challenged the run in.
Monkspath Mackie (6-1) checked in with a fourth-place finish. He completed the race in 30.00, which put him out of third place by 1¼ lengths. 10 lengths separated fourth place from fifth, with Highfire Fox (8-1) finishing lame in 30.80. Last place went to Jakes Princess (11-4), who was 8 ¾ lengths behind Highfire Fox with a 31.50 finish.
The A6 race at 11:28 belonged to Moonbeam Sally. Before the race, the odds makers had staked her as the 6-4 favourite to win, and she lived up to her expectations by finishing in 29.50. Coming out of trap five, Moonbeam Sally moved quickly away from the pack, led to third, and came in to pick up the victory.
Big Sack (4-1) put second place in the bag by matching Moonbeam Sally’s time of 29.50 to finish just a shoulder’s length out of first place. The number three spot was claimed by Bellavista Mist (8-1), who completed the race in 29.78. This placed him 3½ lengths out of the second position.
Carraig Pocket (3-1) could not pocket a win today, as he finished 2½ lengths behind Bellavista Mist for a fourth-place finish in 29.98. Star Destiny (4-1) finished the race in fifth place with a time of 30.02, missing out on fourth place by only a ½ length.
