Magical performances by Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League - AHL
The past week hasn’t been quite impressive for Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League (AHL). It has been on the verge of elimination a number of times but pulled back somehow.
The team seemed to be on their way out of the campaign on three separate occasions but each time they crawled back into the game to remain in contention for the Calder Cup.
It was in serious trouble while playing against Houston Aeros in the Western Conference Finals, trailing by 3-0 in the series. However, Bulldogs came up with a strong performance in the next three games to level the series and take it to Game 7.
During these three straight wins, the hardest fought and close game was the sixth one. The game went into double overtime before Bulldogs managed to win it. The seventh game of the series now gives Bulldogs a chance to write its name in history.
If they win the game and the series, they would be the third team in the history of AHL to win a series after falling behind 3-0.
In the past 75 years since the inception of AHL, Rochester Americans did it in 1960 and Adirondack Red Wings in 1989. Both teams won their seventh game and marked a win in the series.
The 1960 comeback by Rochester Americans witnessed them winning against Cleveland in the league semifinals. Red Wings won the series against Hershey in the division finals.
The main source of productivity for Bulldogs has come from Nigel Dawes.
Dawes had played in 13 NHL games with Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens. While playing with Hamilton Bulldogs, he has written his name in the team’s record list for scoring most goals in the play-offs, a total of 14 so far.
