o.k.. I've been using the Magicjack for two weeks now, and WE LOVE IT!! Now we are thinking of going to the next step in saving money, and that would be getting rid of our traditional phone service with AT&T. I'm searching around for the best high speed service (right now I'm bundled up with ATT - phone and internet). Every one I've seen talks about a "modem"..... doesn't a modem mean you need a dial tone?? and once I get the phone line disconnected will the modem still work??? I'm sure I'm a victim of thinking "the old way" of doing things.... any help would be appreciated...

  1. Well, the biggest savings come if you happen to be a cable TV subscriber. If your broadband connection if provided through the cable company, you don't need to keep your old phone line at all, and you can cancel it enitrely.  If you're a DSL subscriber no such luck- the DSL service must be delivered over a regular old phone line so you have to pay for both (dsl service plus land line).

Of course given the higher price of cable internet in most areas, it often works out about even...

  2. You will still need a phone line, or a cable service for your internet broadband to connect to. All these require a dsl modem. This i NOT the same as an analogue modem.
