Magna Robin’s early pace leads her to A3 victory at Sheffield
In the majority of the 500m greyhound races held at the Sheffield Greyhound Stadium, the dogs that hold an early pace are usually the ones that emerge victorious. Such was the case for
Magna Robin as she raced to a big finish in one of several A3 races on the schedule on Monday 22 November.
A bounding start from trap three gave Magna Robin, the 5-2 favourite, an early pace. After crowding at the first bend, she rebounded quickly to lead the pack and claim the number one position
with a time of 30.12. Second-place finisher Russanda Jess (4-1) also crowded first, and lost 3¼ lengths as a result. She went on to finish the race in 30.38.
Halcrow Delight (6-1) placed third after bumping first. Despite that, he finished only ¾ lengths out of second place in 30.44. Also bumping first was Catsrock Rooney (11-4), who finished
fourth. He went on to complete the race in 30.56 seconds, which placed him 1½ lengths out of the top three.
Fifth place went to Newlawn Pippa (4-1). She badly bumped first, losing 2 lengths in the process, resulting in a 30.72 finish. Magna Times (7-2) moved slowly away and bumped first. He
finished last in 30.74, a neck’s length behind Newlawn Pippa.
Bankers Lotto and Mannies Angel were anointed as the 3-1 joint favourites of the A2 race that followed. Despite a strong effort from both dogs, it was Bankers Lotto who picked up the win.
Coming out of trap five, he held an early pace and soon led the pack, finishing in fine form with a time of 29.86. After holding an early pace, Tristar Dream (7-2) held a strong grip on the second position for the entire race. His finishing time of 30.02 gave
him second place, putting him 2 lengths out of the top spot.
Finishing a head’s length behind Tristar Dream was Swift Pit (7-2). He moved slowly away and crowded third, completing the race in 30.03. Mannies Angel locked up fourth place after crowding
third. She was 1¾ lengths out of the top three with her time of 30.17.
The fifth-place finisher was Full Duck (7-2), who moved slowly away and crowded both third and fourth, resulting in a loss of 1¼ lengths. He finished with a time of 30.27. Last place was
claimed by Magna Hawk (7-2). After moving slowly away, he crowded third and bumped fourth. He went on to finish a neck out of fifth place in 30.30.
Greyhound racing at Sheffield Greyhound Stadium resumes on Tuesday 23 November with a 16-race card. The first race of the evening will begin at 18:39.
