Magnet to a computer monitor?

i accidentally put a magnet to my computer monitor...and all it did was change colors of the screen. (pink and green) how do i fix it?

  1. Am assuming you have a CRT (cathode ray tube), not a LCD/Plasma/etc.

    As mentioned, there is a degauss function that 'de-magnetizes' the screen and you should remove the magnet.

    If the degauss function doesn't work, you have magnetized portions of the internals and there is no way to fix that.

    The way a CRT works is that it shoots rays at the screen we see, which has a material coating that glows when hit by these rays.

    The rays are aimed by internal magnets so that it will sweep onto the screen in the shape engineered by the designers.

    By changing the magnetic field, the rays are no longer going where they should be. The colors you see are the ones going off target.


  2. 1.  Remove magnet if you already haven't.

    2.  There is a "degauss" option on the setup screen for your monitor, use this and it should reset things.
