Maharashtra Badminton League: Eshan Naqvi stamps Jishnu Sanyal to escort Daring Doves to victory
Men’s Singles campaigner Eshan Naqvi of Daring Doves showed elevated craft against Jishnu Sanyal and provided his team right momentum in title match of Maharashtra Badminton League (MBL) on June 3, 2012.
Eshan fetched a vital point for his team by overpowering Jishnu Sanyal with 21-19 and 21-19 scores on the board.
Both contenders join hands in Doubles events to represent Thane district but in MBL they were against each other and played like arch-rivals in this 45-minute clash.
The 20-year old Eshan was over the moon after this success but also admitted that he was under huge pressure against Jishnu as he had lost the previous five meetings.
He said, "It was my first victory over Jishnu. In the Thane district championships he had beaten me 4-5 times and that too quite easily. So I was under lot of pressure."
In first Singles tie, Eshan was bit confused in the beginning but he gained confidence with some power packed rallies.
Though, he was trailing behind his competitor until half time but he switched on his top game in the later part of the game and bagged first set with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-19.
However, there was more drama in following game as Eshan was going at great pace initially but he lost his rhythm just before the half time and allowed his rival to establish a decent lead.
Third quarter of the set also belonged to Jishnu who got into commanding position with some back-to-back points.
However, Eshan struck hard in final moments and wrapped the show by registering concluding figure of 21-19.
He looked ecstatic over this victory as he showed contentment after playing his part successfully.
He said, "My win was necessary for us to win the title. I am glad I could deliver the goods for my owners."
This win set the foundation of Doves’ triumph as its others campaigners Sanyogita Ghorpade and Shubhankar Dey also followed the success trail to seal a splendid 3-1 victory.
Sanyogita Ghorpade overwhelmed Mudra Dahinje with 21-13, 19-21 and 21-14 while Shubhankar edged Siddharth Thakur in just two games with 21-10 and 21-8 total.
