It was a dull day for fans at Subrata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium, Pune, as the Group B match between Maharashtra and Haryana in the ongoing Ranji Trophy ended in a draw on Tuesday.
While Haryana had the opportunity of batting twice in this contest, Maharashtra were more inclined towards posting a staggering total enough to bat once, as they finished with 540 runs in their innings.
With such a massive score, Maharashtra had certainly shattered Haryana’s chances of winning. However, their opponents were not going to go down without a fight as they smashed 75 for two by the end of the third-day of play.
Haryana knew that they would have to bat throughout the final day in order to save the match, while for Maharashtra, it was imperative to grab early wickets in order to have enough time to chase down the required target.
Nonetheless, their plans went awry when Sunny Singh and AA Khod crafted a brilliant partnership, preventing the fielding side from making early inroads.
The batting duo led their side towards 110 runs in the third-wicket partnership before Singh was given lbw off Mundhe after smacking a knock of 54 runs.
Khod was then joined by RR Dalal as the batting side sought to continue its onslaught in order to wreak havoc on the opposition.
This partnership was very productive for Haryana, as it took the score to 161 runs before meeting its demise on the wicket of Khod, who fell with 42 runs to his name. The batsman was trapped in front of stumps by Fallah.
Dalal was then next to go, as he was removed by Fallah for 26. By this time, Haryana had managed to reach only 168 runs.
YA Tomar and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mishra-c871 then regrouped as they stretched the score to 204 before the former lost his wicket on a run out after clobbering 21 runs.
While Mishra crafted a knock of 29, Haryana ended the day by posting 255 with J Yadav unbeaten on 22 and MM Sharma on 12.
