I'm Indian, but i say Ricky Ponting has much better statistics, but when it comes to playing fair, i'd say Mahela Jayawardene

Both are good.To compare their performances,Mahela has scored over 7000 runs in both tests & ODIs at an average of over 50 in tests & over 30 in ODIs & has scored over 30 centuries & over 70 half centuries in both of them.He has been a good able skipper too.Where Ricky Ponting has done still better with scoring over 10000 runs in both tests & ODIs which is one of a biggest achievement & he has done it in an average of around 60 in tests & around 45 in ODIs + scoring over 100 half centuries & over 60 centuries in his entire career. He has been a best skipper for cricket of all time winning his team many many cups including 2 world cups in 2003 & 2007.He has done lot for his team taking responsibility & being a captain for such a big team & batting very well with some good fielding as well.He has done so much for his country & to say practically,Punter is better than Mahela!

Thats Ricky Ponting but many Sri Lankans and anti-Aussie will say Mahela . Poeple have a strong and the only point against Ponting - Fair play
