http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397: Twenty20 cricket has improved overall quality of the game – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s star player Mahela Jayawardene has claimed that Twenty20 cricket has helped cricketers become more positive in Test matches so there is no point criticising the shortest version of the game.
Although fans worldwide love watching Twenty20 cricket, the format is not short of criticism all over the world.
Critics believe that the youngsters do not develop the right temperament for Test cricket due to the excess of Twenty20s. Apart from international games, players are also involved in leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Champions League
Twenty20.
However, Jayawardene was in support of the 20-over cricket and said, "Lot of critics has said that Twenty20 is a bad influence on the game but personally I feel that it has been a very positive influence. Players have become better."
According to the veteran Sri Lankan, modern day cricket has also helped bowlers to use variations in the best possible way. He claimed, "Bowlers have learned to mix their yorkers with their bouncers. There are a variety of deliveries used in Twenty20 being
used in One-day and Test cricket too. The variations on bouncers and yorkers were not really seen 10 years ago in Test cricket."
Pakistan’s all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 echoed the words of Jayawardene saying that overall quality of cricket has improved with the introduction of Twenty20 cricket.
However, many cricketers have quit playing Twenty20 cricket in recent times in order to focus on the longer versions of the game.
The perfect example of this can be seen in the Australian team. Players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 are only playing the longer versions of the game, as they believe their performance has suffered due to Twenty20 cricket.

Players have different opinions on the overall impact of Twenty20 over Test cricket. However, one thing is certain that the fans turn out in big numbers to see their heroes in action in the shortest version of the game.
