http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 a happy man after batting order experiment paid off – Cricket News Update
The Sri Lankan skipper, Mahela Jayawardene, was happy after a batting order swap worked and helped his side script an emphatic 76-run win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the second One Day International of the five-match series, played at the Pallekele
International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele, on Saturday, June 9, 2012.
"We swapped the batting order in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, so we can be flexible. It's good that we can keep changing," said Jayawardene at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Coming into the match at the back of a comprehensive six-wicket defeat a day ago, the home skipper won the toss and once again opted to bat first, this time with a swapped batting line up. The skipper, who had opened the innings in the
previous match, dropped himself to number five on the order, allowing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettige-Don-Rumesh-Lahiru-Thirimanne-c63124 and Angelo Mathews.
Tharanga though failed to make the best of the opportunity given to him, but Jayawardene played a half-century knock at number five, sharing an 86-run fourth-wicket stand with centurion Dilshan. Fast bowler Thisara Perera’s promotion also
paid dividends as he played a quick knock of 24 runs from just 14 balls to help the hosts set an intimidating total of 280 for 4 in their stipulated 50 overs.
Perera then returned with career-best figures of 6 for 44 in his quota of 10 overs, as the tourists were bundled out for only 204 in the 47th over.
Jayawardene credited his team’s all-round performance for the comfortable 76-run win over the Men in Green.
"We were not far away from putting everything together, so credit to the guys for doing so," said Jayawardene, who is skippering the Islanders for a second term, since February this year. “It was important that one of us stays till the
end so it was good Dilshan did so,” he further added.
The Sri Lankan skipper also lavished praise on all-rounders, Thisara Perera and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913.
“Perera is brilliant. It’s great to have such all-rounders, Angelo and him. Hopefully we keep them both healthy for a long period of time," the home skipper concluded.
Third ODI of the series will be played at Colombo on Wednesday, June 13.
