Sri Lanka’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, alongside appreciating the off-spinner, Suraj Randiv’s performance.
Pakistan have one of the world’s most potent bowling attack and it was expected before the series that the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691 will dominate in the Island, where spinners get a lot of help from the pitches.
The Sri Lankan batsmen however, rose to the occasion in the first innings and scored 472, which laid the foundation for a victory and lead in the series.
Veterans http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 scored brilliant hundreds in the match and sealed the advantage for their team, much to skipper Jayawardene's delight, who hopes the batsmen will continue to share the responsibility
in the next two matches.
"The batting looked much better. We had a good start. [Tillakaratne] Dilshan went onto get a hundred. When he gets hundreds he puts us in good positions because he scores quickly. Kumar [Sangakkara] got us a big hundred. [Tharanga]
Paranavitana got a start and got out, and that's another plus. We were struggling to get those starts going,” he said.
Since the retirement of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 is yet to win a Test series and the on-going battle provides Jayawardene and company an opportunity to set the record straight.
The Sri Lankan skipper commended Randiv's showing, who picked up seven wickets in the match and helped his team dismantle the visitors early on. The 35-year-old is confident that the off-spinner will carry forward the momentum in
the series.
Jayawardene is also happy with Nuwan Kulasekara's heartening performance, who troubled the Pakistani batsmen in the limited-overs series as well as in the Galle Test.
Jayawardene, "I thought Suraj [Randiv] bowled much better in this game than he did against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and he has got lot of confidence. Kulasekara [was] coming back into the side, [he] showed what a quality bowler he is."
