Mahela Jayawardene blames poor batting for the loss against India - Cricket News Update
Sri Lankan skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, believes that his side did not bat well on Tuesday, July 31, against India in the fourth One Day International (ODI) that cost them the five-match series.
Talking on the performance of his team, the mild-mannered Jayawardene said, “We didn't bat well, 30-40 runs short. When you set a target like that, you set attacking fields, if you get through that initial period, it becomes easy for them. Lot of credit to Nuwan Pradeep, bowled with lot of pace, good control as well."
He admitted that his side needed to pick wickets in order to restrict http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 from chasing down the required total. However, according to him, poor fielding failed to dent the batting side.
“To control that line-up you need to pick up wicket, that's where we lacked in the last few games, dropping catches doesn't help. The wicket was a touch slow, under lights the ball does a bit, the quicks bowled well,” said the Sri Lankan skipper.
Sri Lanka chose to bat first in this crucial game, to post a nerve wracking total in order to avoid a series defeat.
The upper-order played well, wreaking havoc among India’s strike bowlers.
Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, then had to rely on his part-time bowlers to get the team back in the match, and the gamble worked like a charm as MK Tiwary grabbed four wickets in his ten overs by the end of the Sri Lankan innings.
The hosts failed to continue their batting offensive and were restricted on a tally of 251 runs in 50 overs for the loss of eight wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 got off to a flying start, nabbing their first wicket on the penultimate delivery of the opening over.
However, they lost their way later in the innings, allowing Indian batsmen to crawl back in the match.
From India, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 was the star of the show, as he jabbed an exuberant knock of 128 runs and stayed unbeaten to help his side win the series.
