Urging his boys to be ruthless in their approach, Jayawardene said, “We are not finishing games off. The way we are making mistakes, I want the boys to bring more focus and be ruthless in finishing games off against these top two teams.”
The Lankans squared off against India at the Adelaide Oval in the fifth match of the Commonwealth Bank Series on Tuesday, February 14. Sri Lanka batted first and posted 236 runs, however in an epic battle between the two Asian sides, the match ended as a
draw.
The Lankans had the upper hand during the match and in the last two overs India needed 24 runs with 3 wickets left. However, the Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 did not lose heart and hung in their till the last delivery. The hard hitting batsman struck
the final delivery for three runs and salvaged a draw for his side.
Jayawardene was disappointed with the result. He was hoping for a win, considering that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 was bowling the last over and India needed four runs to win of the final delivery.
Jayawardene said, “A score of 235 wasn't enough on this surface. We didn't do well in the last 15 overs. But overall, we came back strongly in this game. With one ball and four runs, and Malinga bowling, you would back yourself. I was disappointed but then
we have two points on the board and got some momentum going forward.”
The 2011 World Cup finalists are yet to register a win in the ongoing Commonwealth Bank Series. From the first three games that they have played in the series so far, the Lankans have lost two and drew one. However, the silver lining is that the Lankans
