Mahela Jayawardene demands evidence from Hashan Tillakaratne: Cricket News
Sri Lanka’s star batsman, Mahela Jayawardene, has challenged former captain, Hashan Tillakaratne, to provide evidence of the match-fixing allegations he made against the Sri Lankan cricket team. Tillakaratne claimed that players have been involved in wrong
doings since 1992 and will reveal some big names in the coming days.
Jayawardene stated, “People can say whatever they want. You need to prove the allegations. I have no comments. Honestly, I just saw the news. We will have to wait and see what he has to say and what he has to come out with to be honest with you, no comments
till then.”
The stylish right-handed batsman is currently captaining the Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 (KTK) in the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL). The lucrative league has also been questioned by many former cricketers and experts, who believed corruption was involved
in it.
Earlier, Tillakaratne questioned, “I am not saying that this match (the World Cup final) was fixed but why were four players changed for this match? Why was Mendis (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419) removed to put another spinner, Kapugedara (Chamara) was never among runs but he
was chosen to replace Chamara Silva.”
The allegations from former Sri Lankan player have sparked a new controversy in the world of cricket. The chairman of Sri Lankan cricket, DS de Silva, was not pleased with the current situation and claimed to find facts behind the entire situation created.
Such controversies are not new to cricket and one of the biggest in history of the sport took place last year when three Pakistani players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, were allegedly involved in spot-fixing.
The trio was investigated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and was charged with heavy fines and lengthy bans, once found guilty. There were some other players like Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
Cricket Board (PCB).
Only the wicket-keeper batsman was given clearance for selection by the board, as the other two players were unable to prove their innocence. Tillakaratne predicted that his national team will also be in a similar state as Pakistan in the near future, if
necessary action was not taken.
